What is a Preferential Parking District (PPD)?
A PPD is an area that has posted regulations limiting parking by vehicles without permits in order to reduce the impact of non-resident parking. Residents of the area are allowed to purchase permits exempting their vehicles and those of their visitors from posted preferential parking restrictions.

How long does it take to get a Preferential Parking District?
From the time the petitions are issued until the signs are posted takes approximately twelve months.
Do you need neighborhood support to get a Preferential Parking District?
Petitions must be submitted for a minimum of six blocks, and those petitions must contain signatures from at least 75% of residential units on that block.
Can an individual resident request a Preferential Parking District?
Individuals interested in initiating a request for a PPD must contact their City Council office. If the City Council office supports the idea, they will submit a letter of support to LADOT formally initiating the PPD process.
Does it cost residents any money to establish a PPD?
There are no fees associated with establishing a PPD. Permits, however, do require payment.
What are the benefits of a PPD?
A PPD reduces the intrusion of non-resident parking in the neighborhood.

How do you get a parking permit for your neighborhood?
Permit applicants can visit one of Los Angeles Department of Transportation’s (LADOT) four Public Service Centers to apply in person or online. Applicants must provide a copy of their current vehicle registration (vehicle must be registered in applicant’s name at an address in the parking district), photo identification, two proofs of residency, and a property tax bill or rental/lease agreement in their name or their most recent utility bill (cable, landline telephone, internet, home/renters insurance, gas, water or electric).
Is it a one-time cost or annual cost?
The primary permits for residents are purchased on an annual basis. Visitor permits are purchased for four month periods. Guest permits may be purchased on a daily basis.
Can anybody qualify for a permit?
How long does it take to get a parking permit?
If the resident has all the required documentation, they should be able to open their account and purchase permits in about half an hour.
How many parking permits are allowed per household?
Each household may purchase three annual permits, which are each tied to specific vehicles, two visitor permits, and a daily maximum of 25 one-day guest permits.
What if I have visitors, will they need a parking permit?
If visitors are parking during a period in which restrictions are in place, then a visitor or guest permit is required.
Are individuals with disabled placards excluded from obtaining a permit?
Do I need a permit for vendors that service my home?
Commercial vehicles parked in a PPD do not require a permit if parked for commercial activities.
In the event of a natural disaster, can a street or neighborhood get temporary parking permits? Does it cost money for a temporary permit if it’s a natural disaster?
Temporary Preferential Parking Districts may be created in the event of a natural disaster. Permits for such a district cost the same as for permanent Preferential Parking Districts.
